Exploring Little Qualicum Falls (Vancouver Island; May 2010)

Larisa + Michael (us!) with family (Mary and Ron) - and Paisa and Monty!

Here are a few pictures of us enjoying a sunny afternoon at Little Qualicum Falls.  If you want to see pictures from the rest of our Tofino family trip, click here!

While Michael's parents visited us for a few weeks from Nova Scotia, we took them over to Vancouver Island for 4 days.  Of course we brought a couple of dogs with us (Paisa and one of her 7 month old puppies, Monty).  While we spent most of our time in the Tofino area and the Pacific Rim National Park, we also spent an afternoon exploring Little Qualicum Falls (which is part way between Port Alberni and Nanaimo).

This is one of my favorite places on Vancouver Island ...
    ... The trees are huge!
... The water rushes so fast it takes your breath away!
... And, around every corner is something new - and spectacular!

Our afternoon was warm, sunny and beautiful.  And, being that this was before the long weekend in May, and on a weekday, we practically had the whole park to ourselves!  A truly amazing experience.

We saw rainbows when we looked down into the falls (and even caught it pictures!) ... we even found a bird tending to a nest just a few feet away from one of the rushing falls (that's one way to keep then safe from predators - but watch out for that first step!).   Crazy bird!  We've now learned that it was an American Dipper (click here to learn more about them!)

The pictures below help to capture this spectacular place, and the enjoyment that we shared that day.

Please enjoy Little Qualicum Falls with us!
