2013: Montgomery County KC (Welsh Terrier Club of America National Specialty Weekend)
Winners Dog to Finish CH and then Award of Merit at the National! Only 18 months old!
Java was presented by handler Mr. Doug Belter in the very competitive Open Class. The weekend prior to Montgomery (2013), Java went to the Michigan Terrier Specialty and was awarded Winners Dog and Best of Winners both days he was shown! Judge Mr. Clay Coady commented to Java's breeder/owner on Montgomery weekend that it was his pleasure to award Java and from Mr. Coady: "A beautiful Welsh Terrier -- sound, typey and full of quality."
At Devon Dog Show Association, the day before MCKC, Devon also is a WTCA designated Specialty, Java won the Open Class and a 4-point major with Winners Dog. This was a real honor to win on this day! The WT Devon judge is the well known terrier man, Mr. RC Williams (himself has finished over 30 Welsh Terriers, mostly at specialties).
Given that Java would have definitely finished his championship, we decided to move him up to the specials (champion) class for Montgomery day. On this day, the National Specialty for the WTCA, Java was awarded 1 of the 4 AOMs provided at the National! This award was provided by breeder-judge Mr. B. Schwartz - best known for his many MBIS Welsh Terriers and owning the top most winning welsh terrier of all-time - Billy the Kid!
What an honor to be recognized by such knowledgeable terrier men, on such a highly competitive and prestigious weekend! WOW!
2012: Montgomery County KC (Welsh Terrier Club of America National Specialty Weekend): Just a baby at 6 months old and ring debut!
He handled the long plane trip very well. He was shown exclusively by his owner/breeder (Larisa) with confidence and an attitude of a seasoned special. I was SO proud! Java, like his sire Joe at his age, did not have a body of a mature welsh, and with all of the older and beautiful welsh there, we were only there to have fun. Not seriously compete for winners - just hearts. We did that for sure! Java enjoyed meeting everyone, and based on the comments at the hotel, and on the show grounds, welshie and other breeders enjoyed meeting him also. He even came home with a few prizes too!
Java was 1st in the 6 to 9 puppy class each day he was shown, and Best Opposite Sex in sweepstakes at the US National Specialty!
Java has a natural/undocked tail (since his brother went to Germany, I did not dock any of the boys tails in the litter **
Thanks for visiting and stay tuned!
QUESTION: How did Java get his names (call name and registered)? Am I really this creative?
Sometimes I am creative, but the credit for Java's name goes 100% to a friend, Kim Cowie. Kim is a professional handler, mostly known for her expertise with poodles. Kim set-up at many of the shows during 2011 with Milton and Tracy, and seemed to be really taken wtih Java's sire, Joe. She emailed me often, telling me about the various fruit that he enjoyed as a treat from her! It was some of these extra things that has helped with having a dog away with a handler, to make you smile, knowing that he's around good people.
When Dora's litter was born, Kim excitedly pronouced that I had a bunch of "little cups of Joe" at home! And, for those not familiar, a 'cup of Joe' refers to coffee. Well, when I posted a cute picture of this puppy early on, saying that he really was a good combination between Dora and Joe, Kim immediately told me that he should be called - Darwyn's Special Blend ... aka Java! The name stuck.
Thank you Kim! To see more of Kim's special work, click here.
